

In January of 1966, SARM hired its first editor of the Rural Councillor the brand new publication for Saskatchewan rural readers. Volume One, Number One was published in March 1966, in much the same format as it is today.
Though the Rural Councillor was never intended to make a profit for the association, it was hoped that advertising revenue would cover the printing and mailing costs, as it still does today. Almost all contributions are voluntary, from administrators, to government agencies, to rural business leaders, even independent writers.
Throughout the years, the magazines quality has drastically increased, and today, the 32-page magazine is printed in full-colour. The magazine performs the service of information distribution for the associations of SARM and RMAA and follows the vision of being a tool that municipal leaders can use for information to help them serve their municipalities.
