The meeting of SARM District 5 was held in the Regina Center of the Arts on Thursday, March 18, 2004.

Director Nick Postnikoff called the meeting to order at 2:00 p.m. and welcomed everyone present.

The Chair appointed Robert Thurmeier as recording Secretary and Returning Officer.

Moved by R.M. #279/ #340:

That the minutes of the March 13, 2003, meeting, as previously circulated, be approved as read.

Carried.

Elections

Returning Officer Thurmeier called for nominations for SARM Director Division 5

RM #490 nominated Lorne Willner, RM #252

RM #346 nominated Murray Purcell, RM #315.

Moved by R.M. #406/ #314

That nominations cease.

Carried.

Returning Officer Thurmeier permitted each nominator 2 minutes, and each candidate 5 minutes to speak.

Following the candidate’s speeches, the vote was held.

Returning Officer Thurmeier declared Murray Purcell elected as SARM Director Division 5 by a count of 36 - 44.

That the SARM Director Division 5 election ballots be destroyed.

Reports

While the ballots for Div. 5 Director were being counted, retiring Director Postnikoff spoke briefly on the following topics:

• 911 emergency response system

• Sask. Council for Community Development (CARDS)

• Weed Advisory Committee & scentless chamomile control

Newly elected Director Purcell then assumed the Chair for the meeting.

Returning Officer Thurmeier then called for nominations for the Division 5 Economic Development Committee – 2 positions available:

RM #494 nominated Richard Porter, RM #494

RM #491 nominated Jim Lang, RM #521.

RM #312 nominated Eddie Bobiash, RM #312.

Returning Officer Thurmeier permitted each candidate 2 minutes to speak.

Following the candidate’s speeches, the vote was held.

Returning Officer Thurmeier declared Richard Porter & Eddie Bobiash elected as SARM Division 5

Economic Development Committee members by a vote of 54 – 42 – 65.

That the SARM Division 5 Economic Development Committee election ballots be destroyed.

Resolutions

Moved by R.M. #376/ #285:

WHEREAS SARM is considering holding an emergency convention to deal with the education tax issue,

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that this emergency convention be held in Saskatoon.

Carried.

That this meeting be adjourned.
