In 1997, $100,000 was transferred to the Government of Saskatchewan from the Government of Canada as compensation for road surveys necessitated by the settlement of First Nation land claims. SARM signed an agreement with the Province under which $60,000 of these funds were transferred to SARM for surveying, preparing and filing of road plans for municipal roads. These funds are to be used to compensate rural municipalities, in part, for survey cost on lands affected by First Nation land claims. Survey costs for widening of road right of ways are not eligible for funding. Rural municipalities receive funding to a maximum of fifty percent of
eligible costs.
