Richard is currently the Reeve of the RM of Canwood No. 494.
Richard and his wife Ann were married in 1967 and have no children. They were actively involved in farming and contracting, gravel crushing, ditch grass mowing and logging.
His involvement in local government started in 1996 as councillor for the RM and he became Reeve in 2007. He ran for SARM Director successfully in 2008. Richard's main responsibilities have been in transportation and infrastructure. He is chairman of the North Central Transportation Planning Committee and chairman of the Chairperson's of Area Planning for a number of years. Richard is also president of Highway 55 Waste Management Regional Landfill.
Richard has been very active in his community and still is chairman of fundraising for a new health centre, chairman of Doctor recruitment, chairman of Woodland Bus Inc. "Handicap Transit" and has been chairman of the local school board.
For years Ann and Richard were also members of Kinette and Kinsmen holding all executive positions.
Richard represents SARM on the following committees:
